Maddy and the Chaps were formed in April 2017 from a group of like minded musicians from Dawlish, Devon. Mike and Terry were previously in the Dawlish Ukes and through association and chance meetings in the Brunswick, signed up the other members. Chris hails from Cardiff, but is regularly in the Devon area. The rest of the members are Dawlish residents, but bring influences from their roots in London, Wales, Sunderland, the Isle of Man and Ireland.
They play an eclectic mix of folk, country and celtic acoustic music. Think Beatles and Mumford and Sons, John Denver and REM, Dolly Parton and Vance Joy, The Pogues and Buddy Holly.
They play guitars, ukelele, banjolele, banjo, acoustic bass, accordion, mandolin and some bits and pieces of percussion. All five of them sing, which allows a range of singing styles and opportunities for harmonies.
